Can You Get Lean in 15?
Social Media Star, Joe Wicks, has smashed UK Records in 2016 after the release of his diet book “Lean in 15” The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, has created a diet and healthy exercise plan that claims to get you lean in 15, but does it really work?

The diet plan consists of a low carbohydrate diet, and consuming high quantities of healthy fats, proteins and vegetables. Swapping unhealthy processed snacks for fresh fruit and veg options is also on the menu.

It is very similar to the Keto Diet, as it involves activating the ketosis process, in which the body becomes more efficient at burning fat as it uses up more energy. This process is activated by reducing carbohydrate intake. Carbohydrates are the body’s main source of energy, so when it runs out, the body then progresses to burning fat.

Reducing carbohydrates will also result in fast weight loss in the short term as carbs bind to water molecules. Without carbs the body loses water weight. However losing water weight is only possible in the short term. The body needs water to survive so eventually the water weight will increase once more.

Carbohydrates within the Lean in 15 Diet plan are allowed post work out, in order to encourage muscle repair and growth. Muscle growth is also extremely important when losing weight as it is very proficient in burning fat. On rest days of the exercise and plan, intake then is concentrated on high protein and high fat foods.

Each day consists of three meals and two snacks. An example of the foods that need to be consumed are chicken, turkey mince, eggs, nuts, bacon and avocadoes.

Along with the healthy diet, High Intensity Interval Training is required. Each HIIT training session lasts 15 minutes each and is carried out four to five times a week. High Intensity Interval Training encourages muscle growth by providing the maximum amount of stress to encourage satellite cell production.

Each high intensity cardio work out uses three simple body weight exercises that can easily be done at home. With each daily work-out being 15 minutes long, it is perfect for those with a busy schedule and find it hard to make time for the gym.

The purpose of these HIIT exercises is to burn visceral fat, which is the fat that is stored around the organs. Too much visceral fat in the body is dangerous and can cause many health issues such as heart disease.

In conclusion, the diet part of the book and healthy recipes are not that different from many other diet plans, including the Keto Diet, and the Atkins Diet.

High Intensity Interval Training is popular with people whose main goal is burning fat, but it is not always a suitable form of exercise for all. If you have any old injuries or health complaints, HIIT may not be the right exercise method for you.

Know your own body and what you are capable of. Increase exercise levels over time, and eat healthier at meal times and you will probably see the same results.
