There are a vast array of fitness events held all across the UK every year. Why not set yourself a goal and complete one of these exciting events to add a bit of fun to an otherwise daunting challenge.

The fitness events include many different sports, from walking to climbing, swimming to cycling, to suit all fitness levels. You could even find a new enjoyable activity that helps you boost your fitness levels and achieve your goals faster.

1. Walking – one of the simplest, easiest ways to lose weight. It doesn’t cost anything and provides huge health benefits. Walking regularly can reduce the risk of many illnesses such as heart disease and strokes. To keep you motivated, try walking with friends or family, or work towards completing one of the following fantastic events –


TrekFest “The Peaks” is the ultimate UK walking challenge that also raises money for charity too! Set out through the Peat District, one of the UK’s most beautiful national parks and complete a 25K or 50K course. Lose weight, get healthy and have fun raising money for a good cause.

Eye to Eye Charity Walk is fun for all the family. The route is 4 miles long, and passes some of the most famous sights London has to offer, starting off at Moorfield Eye Hospital and finishing at the London Eye. If you are looking for an event that can help keep the whole family healthier in 2017, this is a great walk to join.

2. Running – a great way to burn off calories in 2017. Running is not only a great leg work out but great for weight loss too. It has also proven that running can make you happier, and counts as a form of meditation. It also raises levels of good cholesterol in the body. The UK is packed full of marathon events every year. Try setting a goal to complete one of the events this year and it may help you to keep on track and achieve a fitter, healthier lifestyle.

The Wall – a stunning 69 mile run through Hadrian’s Wall country in Cumbria. Held in June, this is the 6th year running for the event. Helpful information packs are available on sign up for the event, offering all the support you may need. If you’re looking to set yourself an extreme challenge in 2017 this is one of the best events this year.

Scottish Half Marathon a fast and flat course over 13.1 miles that finishes on Scotland’s oldest race course in Musselburgh. There are people running from all levels, from never having run a marathon before to the most experienced. All runners signing up receive a personal training plan dependant on their fitness levels. You will receive all the support you will need to complete the challenge.

3. Cycling burn fat and increase your cardiovascular fitness in 2017. Not only will you be burning off the calories, but cycling strengthens bones, improves joint mobility, posture and coordination and reduces stress levels. There are many challenges to choose from at various levels of difficulty.

Nightrider – London is a charity event. The cycle route is 50K – 100K and is a unique way to see the famous London sights at night. Full support is provided along with regular breaks and once completed you are even treated to breakfast and a medal in the morning.

Land`s End to John O`Groats is definitely an extreme challenge. The famous route takes you the length of the UK to the most northerly point of Scotland. Covering 1000 miles, the event is one of the toughest in the UK, so if you are looking for the ultimate fitness challenge in 2017 this would be it!

4. Climbing – a great way to improve muscle strength, stamina and over all endurance. Climbing works multiple muscle groups all at once and is a perfect lower and upper body work out. If you are looking to achieve lean muscle mass, climbing is the perfect activity to achieve your goals

Tough Mudder is one of the most famous obstacle courses and mud runs, holding multiple events all over the UK. The obstacle courses boast to be the toughest challenge in the UK and thousands of people take part every year. The event will push you to the limits, as you crawl, run and climb through the muddy obstacle course.

Nuclear Rush Weekend in Essex is great if you are looking for a challenge for the kids to get them moving and motivated, the nuclear rush event provides obstacle courses designed for 4 years + .
